New 2010 Student Career Survey
JAA completed the Student Career Survey 2010 with the support of its Lead Teacher Network. The survey is conducted annually among high school students in Baku and the regions to identify their career and educational priorities. The 2010 survey assessed the students' career preferences and their specific plans to obtain an ideal job, identify what important aspects are for the students in choosing a career, and evaluate ethical decision-making in choosing a career.

JAA Alumni Win Full Educational Scholarships from Total. Three JAA program graduates, Elshan Aliyev, Ilkin Yusifov and Kamal Quliyev won 40,000 scholarships each to pursue their graduate degrees in France. The full scholarships to cover the students tuition and living were granted by Total the world's fourth largest private oil and gas operator, which activities span more than 130 countries and cover the complete oil and gas chain: exploration and production, downstream gas operations, trading, transport, refining and petroleum product marketing

| JA Azerbaijan Program Nominated for U.S. Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship |
JA Azerbaijan's School Economics Education (SEE) was highlighted during the U.S. Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship on April 26-27, 2010. The Summit was designed to highlight and celebrate the work and talents of many great entrepreneurs from Muslim communities around the world. "Throughout history, the market has been the most powerful force the world has ever known for creating opportunity and lifting people out of poverty", said President Obama about choosing entrepreneurship as a theme for the Summit. Participants included successful entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and leaders of entrepreneurship networks, non-profits, foundations, and businesses who are invested in promoting business or social entrepreneurship in Muslim counties.

| Bakcell and JAA Create First Educational Resource on Mobile Telecommunications Business |
Bakcell and Junior Achievement Azerbaijan introduced the unique educational resource on the mobile telecommunications business for the undergraduate students. The training program provides hands-on and academically enriching activities on the essentials of the mobile telecommunications business, its structure, products and services, career opportunities, inter-department work-flow and the corporate social responsibility. The materials consisting of the textbook, workbook and online supplements were created within the Introduction to Mobile Telecommunication Business (IMTB) program funded by Bakcell. The initiative provides 54 undergraduate students with the work-readiness skills necessary for finding and being able to keep a job, the mobile telecommunications industry-specific training, the on-site internship experience, and the opportunity to participate in the international student fair in Europe.

| Baku Students Win the 10th Annual National Management and Economics Competition |
Twenty four high school students from Baku and Agdash now know what it is like to be an entrepreneur in a competitive business environment. On March 10, 2010, the students gathered together in Baku for the final round of the 10th Annual National Management and Economics Competition (NMEC). Conducted by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan (JAA), the contest is a component of the School Economics Education program, funded by Statoil Absheron, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Chevron Khazar as main donors; and Baker & McKenzie, American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan, Bakcell, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports as event partners.
This year contest started in October 2009 with elimination rounds and engaged 152 high school students from 35 schools in Baku, Sumgayit, Mingechevir, Agdash, Kurdamir, Yevlakh, Sheki, and Goranboy. Using the business simulation software, the students applied their knowledge of business as they competed in the highly competitive industry of a fictional product. While simulating business quarters, the participants made decisions on price, production, marketing, capital investment, and R&D. The impact of the decisions led to the success or failure of each student company. Baku School #264 students ranked first with the highest performance indicators. The winning team will participate in the International JA Titan Competition from March till June 2010 and receive the opportunity to apply for JA Job Shadow program at JAA-affiliated companies.

| Personal Finance and Social Entrepreneurship Now in Azerbaijani |
JA Azerbaijan expanded its portfolio with two programs on social entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The Personal Finance program will help secondary school and undergraduate students to assess their personal skills and interests, explore career options, and learn about budgets, personal and family financial management, the use of credit, and financial planning in careers. JAA's another new program - Social Entrepreneurship - introduces the potential beneficiaries to the entrepreneurship activities that contribute to the solution of social challenges. The material contains a step-by-step guide to creation of the social enterprise, business and capital planning, and public outreach. Both programs were developed with the support of BP and its co-ventures.

| Students Explore Economics of Life with MetLife Foundation Support |
With the support of MetLife Foundation, JA Azerbaijan adapted JA Worldwide's Exploring Economics for Azerbaijani high school students. JA Exploring Economics tackles a complex subject and makes it accessible and fun for high school students through hands-on activities. The program teaches concepts such as supply and demand and inflation, and teaches students the effect which governments and the individual have on the global economy and on the price of a loaf of bread. By making economics engaging and relatable, JA Exploring Economics helps students better understand the impact they have on the economy as consumers and taxpayers, and teaches important personal financial lessons around spending, saving, and investing. The program will be piloted in the schools in 2010-2011 academic year.

| Absheron Engineering and JAA Introduce Careers in Engineering |
Absheron Engineering and Junior Achievement Azerbaijan are pleased to announce the launch of a new joint program, called JA Careers in Engineering. The three-year project that will help high school students make informed decisions about their future careers to reach personal life maxims by evaluating opportunities in the engineering industry. JA Careers in Engineering will teach the students work-readiness skills, personal finance, business ethics, and careers in engineering through master classes and extensive training programs and provide practical job shadow experience.

| Program Graduates Form Alumni Club |
In January, JAA formed the Alumni Club to involve its program graduates in business education and career development activities. The club is administered by five elected student-members, forty regular members, and more than 500 affiliates all graduates of JAA programs. From January till March, the Alumni Club conducted four meetings in universities and colleges to attract affiliates. In March, the Club in cooperation with J. Ray McDermott Caspian Contractors started out its first activity, called Career Day. During the full-day field visit, the students learned about various careers at the hosting company, met with the staff of various departments, and participated in career, business ethics, and safety training programs.

| 40 Students Compete in 2010 Global JA Titan Challenge |
In February 2010, JA Worldwide launched the 2010 Global JA Titan Challenge that annually engages 1,000 student teams from 69 countries. During the online contest built on the business simulation software, the students act as CEOs of imaginary businesses and make decisions on key factors that affect overall business performance: price, production, capital investment, marketing, research and development, and charitable giving.
The international contest is a part of the 2008-2010 School Economics Education Program, which is funded by Statoil Absheron, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Chevron Khazar as main supporters, and Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth and Sport, Baker & McKenzie, American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan, and Bakcell as associate partners.
This year with the support of funding companies, JAA provided the access and technical training for 50 Azerbaijani student teams to participate in the contest. In March 40 of these students advanced to the semi-finals of the prestigious competition. The competition will continue until June 2010 and the winners will receive cash awards. The students from Azerbaijan won the competition in 2007 and annually reach the global finals since 2004.

| Business Ethics Essay Contest Launched among 200 Students |
In total 200 students learned workplace ethics within the JA Business Ethics initiative during October-December, 2009. Throughout the project, the participants learned how to explore their own ethical values and philosophy, establish ethical priorities, recognize key ethical issues, learn to evaluate their decision-making process, and the role of corporate social responsibility in business conduct.
In February 2010, the project participants joined the national essay competition, the winner of which will be determined in May. In June, the winning essay will participate in JA Worldwide global essay contest that offers cash prizes and educational scholarships.
