Lead Teacher Conference – Creating Opportunities for Business Educators in Azerbaijan

November 30 - December 1, 2007 – one hundred economics teachers and distinguished guests from the United States Agency for International Development and the business community participated in the Lead Teacher Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. BP and Partners Bring JAA to Baku Communities

Junior Achievement Azerbaijan (JAA) received a grant from BP and its co-venturers in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG), Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD), and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) projects to provide economics and business curriculum for high school students in Baku communities through the School Economics and Business Education Program (SEBE). The initiative is a part of Economic Opportunities Programme (EcOP) for the Baku region that is aimed at supporting enterprise development and job-creation by providing access to high quality training and micro-creditopportunities.

SEE Teacher Receives Honorary Teacher of Economics Award from Azerbaijan's President

The School Economic Education program teacher from Baku, Ms. Naila Ahmadova received the Honorary Teacher of Economics degree from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Ms. Ahmedova joined Junior Achievement Azerbaijan activities in 2000 from Baku School #132. A year later her school became one of ten schools to pioneer with SEE. In 2002, Naila Ahmadova received the Trainer of Trainers status from JA Azerbaijan and since then has trained more than 200 teachers on economics and SEE activity implementation. Ms. Ahmadova's students participated in numerous SEE activities. Among their achievements are championships in the National Management and Economics competition in 2002, 2004, and 2007  and VIII place



Community Economic Education Program Brings 9 Interns to Job Places

Starting July 16 the Community Economic Education Program (COMEEP) brought nine successful program participants to job places in Baku, Ganje and Yevlakh to learn about careers first-hand. COMEEP started in 2006 with the support from British Petroleum and partner companies and is implemented by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan.The most successful training participants applied for the internship opportunity with Junior Achievement Azerbaijan partner companies in June. Introducing Improved Economics Textbook

September 2007, JA Azerbaijan released the new version of the Economics textbook that will be used in schools selected this year for the School Economic Education Program (SEE) and School Economic and Business Education Program (SEBE). The textbooks content adoption and upgrade was made possible through the grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).USAID and British Petroleum and partner companies funded the publication and distribution of the textbooks to 65 secondary schools in twelve regions. Improved based on Junior Achievement Worldwides Economics textbook, the new teaching resource addresses current situation of international and Azerbaijans economies, bases on strong scientific background, and contains applied extracurricular activities.The content abounds in historical examples, expounds economic theories and systems,gives explanation of economic policies...



SEE Program Now in 230 Schools

In 2007, the School Economic Education Program (SEE) expanded its activities into five colleges and 45 public schools in twelve regions in Baku, Sumqayit, Mingechevir, Ganje, Ali Bayramli, Masalli, Kurdamir, Naftalan, Shamakhi, Salyan and Agstafa increasing the number of schools participating in projects on market economy to 230 in Azerbaijans 26 regions.Since 2003, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, SEE has introduced the Economics subject into Azerbaijani secondary schools using new teaching methodology and Junior Achievement Economics curriculum. SEE Students Gain Real-World Experience in Business

Every year the School Economic Education programs most successful students intern with JAA partner companies. From July to September 2007, thirteen SEE students (winners of the Student Companies, Global Business Ethics, and National Management and Economics competition) worked with career advisors at Statoil Azerbaijan, McDermott Caspian Contractors, Exxon Azerbaijan, AIG and KCA Deutag to gain a first-hand look at what opportunities are available in the business world. The internships range from one-week job-shadow opportunities to two-month extensive internships. Azerbaijani Team Wins International Business Competition

The School Economic Education program's (SEE) alumni team (from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy) became world champions at the 12th Annual Hewlett Packard Global Business Challenge (HPGBC). The contest, held in Prague, brought together the world's strongest economics and business students from Canada, Lithuania, Argentina, Russia, China, and Azerbaijan.Since 2003 SEE has supported 750 students' participation in the competition, resulting in Azerbaijani teams reaching the finals two years in a row-in 2006 a school team from Baku took third place.Organized by Junior Achievement Worldwide and the Hewlett-Packard Corporation, the contest gives thousands of students the opportunity to take the role of business leaders...



Statoil and JA Azerbaijan Take SEE Students to Caspian Energy Center

June 27, Junior Achievement and Statoil Azerbaijan took twenty five Global Business Ethics program finalists to the Caspian Energy Center (CEC).Established in 2005 by the initiative of BP and partners and co-financed by Statoil and other companies, the Caspian Energy Center is the unique exhibition of Azerbaijan oil and gas industry, presented through the use of innovative and educational computer simulations.
