Date published: Jul 21 2009
Press Releases >>

May 26, 2009 – 3 p.m. at Hotel Ambassador, Countess Room: 63 most successful participants of the JA Student Companies program, the youth entrepreneurship initiative, from across Azerbaijan will come together for the 2009 Student Business Day.

JA Student Companies program is a component of larger School Economics and Business Education Program, funded by BP and its co-ventures in ACG, Shahdeniz, BTC, and SCP, StatoilHydro, USAID, Chevron, and Baker & McKenzie and implemented by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan in strategic partnership with Ministry of Education.

The guest speakers at the event will be representing Azerbaijan Ministry of Education, USAID, BP, StatoilHydro, Chevron, and Baker & McKenzie. All media agencies are invited to attend the event that will be held with participation of representatives of local and foreign businesses and academic communities.

JA Student Company program started in December 2008 and engaged 175 students from 28 schools of Baku, Sumgayit, Kurdamir, Yevlakh, Ismayilli, Shirvan, Barda, Agdash and Mingechevir. The project taught the high school students entrepreneurship and business plan development with the assistance of teachers and volunteers from the business community.

During the event on May 26, the finalist teams from Baku, Ismayilli, Yevlakh, Kurdamir, and Agdash will present their businesses and products to the panel of judges, who will determine the program winners according to six nominations.

The event will end with an awards ceremony, during which the winning teams and the business volunteers will receive appreciation certificates and awards.

QUOTE

Junior Achievement provides teachers, and schools with concrete programmes, and allows students to learn how to put theory into practice and to understand what entrepreneurship is about. In this way students gain self-confidence and motivation, become proactive and learn how to work in a team. This is an important investment in Europe's future.

--- Jose Manuel Barroso,
President of the European Commission
