On November 10-11, Junior Achievement Azerbaijan and Project Harmony will conduct the School Economics Education Program Lead Teacher Conference for the teachers involved in JAA economics and business education curriculum. 50 teachers from Baku and 50 teachers from the schools in other regions of Azerbaijan will participate in the two-day event at Grand Hotel Europe. Azerbaijan Republic's Minister of Education, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, the representatives from international and local businesses and media are invited to take part in the event. The conference will consist of sessions on business and economics education and development of partnerships between schools in Azerbaijan and the United States. The activities will provide the participants with skills for using computers and the Internet to further their professional abilities and enhance their economic classes. This way the conference will develop a cadre that can provide for the sustainability of the program by introducing new generation of educators. The schedule of the conference is the following: Baku - November 10-11, 2005 - Grand Hotel Europe - Registration: 8.30 am Junior Achievement Azerbaijan is a local non-profit and non-governmental organization engaged in economics and business education in Azerbaijani high schools. JAA began in 2000 with six participating schools in Baku, added 55 schools by 2002 and, through funding by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and private donors, has expanded its activities to 80 schools in Baku and ten regions around Azerbaijan, with 25 more schools joined JAA in 2004. Throughout 2005-2008, JAA will expand to additional 140 schools. Junior Achievement Azerbaijan has forged a strong relationship with the Ministry of Education over the past years, which installed JAA economics curriculum JAA-affiliated schools. Junior Achievement Azerbaijan works closely with Project Harmony, a US-based international not-for-profit organization, to implement its activities. The program has already reached 15,000 tenth and eleventh-grade students. JAA's programs include teacher training on teaching economics, applied economics training for students, Global Business Ethics, Student Companies, Hewlett Packard Global Business Challenge, and National Management and Economics Simulation Exercise. |
