On May 26 2010, 80 participants of the Junior Achievement’s Student Companies program, the youth entrepreneurship initiative, came together in Baku for the 2010 Student Business Day.
The activity implemented by Junior Achievement Azerbaijan (JAA) was conducted within the School Economics Education Program (SEE), supported by the coalition of companies – Statoil Absheron, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Chevron Khazar Ltd. as main donors, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, American Chamber of Commerce, Baker & McKenzie, and Bakcell as associate partners. Hewlett-Packard and Exxon Azerbaijan Limited participate as the event partners.
JA Student Companies program started in November 2009 and engaged 80 students from 15 schools of Baku, Ismayilli and Mingachevir. The project taught the high school students entrepreneurship and business plan development with the assistance of teachers and volunteers from the business community.
At the final event the student teams presented their businesses and products to the panel of judges from business community. The judges were provided with fictional JA “Dollars” to invest in student companies and evaluate students’ business idea according to its innovativeness, feasibility, financial planning and creative marketing strategy.
With the investment of 2,800 JA “Dollars”, the team from Baku School #6 was announced the “Student Company of the Year”. This team also won in the “Innovative Product” nomination. Student-team from Baku School #164 received award for the best financial plan; and two teams from Baku Zarifa Aliyeva School have been awarded for creative marketing strategy and the most feasible business planning.
The project winners received awards from the sponsoring companies.The winning team students from School #6 will participate in the summer internship program with JAA partner companies.
