Date published: Apr 10 2008
2007 >>

In 2007, the School Economic Education Program (SEE) expanded its activities into five colleges and 45 public schools in twelve regions in Baku, Sumqayit, Mingechevir, Ganje, Ali Bayramli, Masalli, Kurdamir, Naftalan, Shamakhi, Salyan and Agstafa increasing the number of schools participating in projects on market economy to 230 in Azerbaijan’s 26 regions.

Since 2003, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, SEE has introduced the Economics subject into Azerbaijani secondary schools using new teaching methodology and Junior Achievement Economics curriculum. In order to instruct teachers on delivering the course, SEE conducted extensive 17-day summer training seminar for 60 teachers.

Thus far SEE program created opportunities for 62,300 high school students and 300 teachers to step into an exciting world of economics and business through training and practical activities. Every year, along with Economics subject, the students in SEE schools participate in student-lead School Companies activity, learn Global Business Ethics, learn about careers within the Student Internship Program and examine economics, management and business skills in national and international challenges.

QUOTE

Junior Achievement provides teachers, and schools with concrete programmes, and allows students to learn how to put theory into practice and to understand what entrepreneurship is about. In this way students gain self-confidence and motivation, become proactive and learn how to work in a team. This is an important investment in Europe's future.

--- Jose Manuel Barroso,
President of the European Commission
